P. Sue Beckwith Endowed Head Women's Basketball Coach Retires
Lisa Bluder, the head coach of the Iowa Hawkeyes women's basketball program for the past 24 seasons, announced her retirement on Monday. The announcement comes as a surprise to many, as Bluder has been a highly successful coach, leading the Hawkeyes to 16 NCAA Tournament appearances, including four Sweet Sixteens and two Elite Eights.
In a statement released by the university, Bluder said, "It is with a range of emotions that I share with you today that I have decided to step down as the P. Sue Beckwith, MD Head Women's Basketball Coach at the University of Iowa." Bluder went on to thank her husband, David, and the entire Hawkeye community for their support throughout her tenure.
Bluder's decision to retire came after she took some time away from the team to reflect on her future. She said that she realized that it was time for a new chapter in her life and that she was ready to spend more time with her family and other interests.
